Peace Professionalism Project
PEGASUS Institute is one of many partners involved in the SSHRC-funded Peace Professionalism Project (PPP), headed by Philip Onguny from St. Paul’s University and advisory board member Nathan Funk of Conrad Grebel College. The project aims to establish a Peace Professionalism Framework by identifying emerging criteria for peace professionalism and reflecting on the values that ground this work and the competencies required to build peace.
The Peace Professionalism Project (PPP), supported by a SSHRC Partnership Development Grant, adopts a cross-sectoral and interdisciplinary approach to generate practical and evaluative research. This research aims to rethink existing approaches to peace professionalism, enhance knowledge and understanding of peace work as a professional practice, and strengthen curricula in peace, conflict, and security programs.
Specifically, the project seeks to develop and test an assessment system that can be scaled at local, national, and international levels to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of peace professionals. To achieve these broad and cross-cutting objectives, the research team has organized its activities around three core areas:
-
-
-
- Developing a network of researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to explore innovative ways of increasing the implementation of peace goals and objectives.
- Conducting practical and evaluative research to strengthen the response capacity of peace professionals and complement curricula in peace, conflict, and security studies.
- Establishing a forum for knowledge mobilization to bridge the research-practice-policy gap in peace, conflict, and security interventions.
-
-
As a collaborative project, PPP brings together scholars, practitioners, and policymakers from Canada, the USA, Kenya, Colombia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. In addition to contributions by partners, PPP is supported by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) through a Partnership Development Grant.
