The Emerging Leaders Network (ELN) has been abuzz with activity, bringing together young professionals and students from diverse backgrounds to collaborate, learn, and grow. Let’s dive into the exciting updates from March 2024 that showcase the ELN’s commitment to fostering leadership, research, and community building.

ELN Webinars:

Since its revitalization in August 2023, the ELN has been hosting monthly webinars on a range of topics. From discussing research to exploring the intersection of climate change and human health, these webinars serve as a platform for discussions and knowledge sharing. Themes have included refugee experiences, climate change adaptation strategies, and the therapeutic use of dance in post-conflict societies. The ELN continues to provide valuable learning opportunities for its members, empowering them with knowledge and inspiration to enact positive change.

ELN Socials: Cultivating Connections Beyond Professional Borders

Recognizing the importance of fostering a sense of community among its members, the ELN introduced monthly social events starting in December 2023. These gatherings go beyond professional networking, offering a space for members to create genuine connections and friendships. By fostering a supportive and inclusive environment, ELN socials play a vital role in nurturing the network’s vibrant community spirit. Join us for our socials on the third Saturday of each month!

ELN Research Projects: Driving Impact through Collaboration

ELN’s commitment to research excellence is evident in its ongoing projects. One such project collaboration among ELN members who are conducting a comprehensive review on the health implications of extreme cold weather events, known as Dzuds, in Mongolia—a critical issue exacerbated by climate change.

Other on-going work is the Ecuadorian Mental Health Research Group. This group aims to investigate the impact of Ecuador’s internal armed conflict in the mental health of university students, given the escalating violence and insecurity plaguing the nation. With Ecuador experiencing a surge in gang-related activities including drug trafficking, kidnapping, and extortion, the population’s sense of safety has drastically declined. The study seeks to uncover the prevalence of mental health distress among university students aged 18 to 29, a demographic particularly vulnerable to psychological disturbances amid societal instability. By surveying students across the country’s universities, the research aims to identify specific factors contributing to their psychological distress and understand their evolving psychological needs amidst Ecuador’s turbulent landscape.

ELN Mentorship Program: Nurturing Tomorrow’s Leaders

In line with its mission to empower emerging leaders, the ELN is in the planning stages of launching a mentorship program. This initiative aims to pair seasoned professionals with aspiring young leaders, providing mentorship, guidance, and support to navigate their career paths effectively.

ELN Blog: Amplifying Voices, Sharing Insights

As part of its ongoing efforts to amplify diverse perspectives and knowledge, ELN is developing a blog that will feature monthly updates on the Pegasus Institute Website. This platform will serve as a hub for sharing insights, reflections, and experiences from ELN members, further enriching the network’s collective learning and impact.

The work to date of the ELN underscores the members dedication to nurturing leadership, fostering research excellence, and building a strong sense of community among its members. Through initiatives such as webinars, social events, research projects, and mentorship programs, the ELN continues to empower emerging leaders to create positive change in their communities and beyond.
