About PEGASUS Institute

PEGASUS Institute is a Canadian charity that aims to build an effective collaborative network that promotes the interconnection of peace, environmental sustainability, and health for all. We do this by engaging in collaborative knowledge exchange, network formation, and research activities that address the interconnections between peace, environmental sustainability, and health for all.

WHO Academy and Peace through Health

PEGASUS Institute is exploring collaboration with the WHO Academy, focusing on integrating its Peace through Health expertise into WHO’s Global Health and Peace Initiative. To support this partnership, PEGASUS plans to professionally package its existing Peace through Health course from the McGill Summer Institute, potentially with the assistance of a skilled professional.

Rebuilding Medical and Public Health Education in Gaza through Innovation and Mentorship

PEGASUS Institute is coordinating a comprehensive response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, focusing on rebuilding medical and public health education through collaboration with local, regional, and international partners. The project aims to revive and implement educational programs in medicine, public health, mental health, and peacebuilding, utilizing knowledge sharing, innovation, and mentorship to overcome educational barriers caused by conflict.

Mental Health and Peacebuilding in Kenya

PEGASUS Institute, in collaboration with international and local experts, is planning a community-led project focused on mental health and peacebuilding in Wajir Province, Northern Kenya. The project aims to integrate local knowledge and global tools, such as WHO’s mhGAP, to address mental health challenges in conflict-impacted areas, with a possibility of expanding to other counties like Machakos, Kitui, and Makueni, emphasizing decolonization practices and local ownership.

Addressing Gender-Based Violence Data Gaps in the Context of COVID-19

This project aims to develop a multi-country platform and cross-sectoral partnerships to address data gaps on gender-based violence (GBV) exacerbated by COVID-19. Focused on Tanzania, Ecuador, El Salvador, and Canada, the initiative will identify barriers to data collection, share best practices, and leverage successful community-led solutions to enhance GBV prevention, programming, and service delivery across diverse cultural contexts.

Differences in Worldviews Between Indigenous-Led Policing and Non-Indigenous Policing

This project explores the contrasting worldviews of Indigenous-led and non-Indigenous policing to create a more inclusive and effective policing model. By examining these differences, the initiative aims to improve public health and safety, reduce violence and discrimination, and foster culturally appropriate responses, trust, and stronger relationships between law enforcement and communities.

Environmental Toxins: Justice and Equity

This initiative seeks to build a community-driven, sustainable network to address environmental injustices in Canada, focusing on racialized and Indigenous communities disproportionately affected by toxic exposures. The project will integrate research, policy, education, and action to confront and mitigate the impact of environmental toxins, promoting justice and equity for affected populations both in Canada and globally.
